FITFANTASY/Affirmations
Did you ever hear the story about how Frank Zane defeated Arnold Schwarzenegger?
(I'm personally convinced that it was the inspiration to Al Franken's Stewart Smally character. If anyone who reads this knows Al Franken, can you ask him for me?)
According to what Zane told me (and the rest of the audience) at his Fitness seminar, the key to Zane's Mr. Olympia victories was his affirmation program. Zane simply told himself he would win the Mr. Olympia 1 million times... and then he did. In fact, according to Zane, he did it each year that he won the Mr. Olympia. Then, when he went a year without performing his affirmation program, he lost.
Zane said that he repeated his affirmation 2,739 times each day!!
Was this really what enabled him to defeat Schwarzenegger? Would it work for others?
Who knows... but, perhaps this kind of a thing does make it easier for a person to follow through on a resolution... even if we don't necessarily do it 2,739 times per day. With that in mind, here are some other books that talk about the concept:
